Insane (stylized as inSANE) is a survival horror video game developed by Volition, Inc. and published by THQ, in collaboration with film director Guillermo del Toro.[1] It is being developed for Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, and will be released in 2013. It is the first installment of a planned trilogy of inSANE video games.[2]
inSANE was first announced at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards on 11 December 2010 by del Toro and Volition, in the form of a thirty-second teaser trailer.[3] del Toro said of the game "With this new series of video games, I want to take players to a place they have never seen before, where every single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality. THQ and Volition, Inc. are equally excited to make this vision of a completely new game universe into a reality."[4]
In an official press release by THQ, vice president Danny Bilson has described how "THQ is committed to creating great games by identifying the world's most talented artists and providing them with the creative support to design innovative game play experiences. Guillermo is not only an incredibly gifted writer and film director, but also an avid gamer, and we are excited to bring his talents to our medium. We are confident his unique point of view will create visually stunning adventures, filled with rich and rewarding game play."[2]
Guy Davis, a comic book artist, creator of The Marquis and formerly the ongoing artist of the B.P.R.D. series, is one of the key designers of the game.[5] He has previously worked with Del Toro on designs for At the Mountains of Madness.[6]
