About

InnerSpace is a fast-paced, late night entertainment show featured on the Space Network. The program airs every Friday night at 11pm Eastern Standard Time. Join Space personalities Ajay Fry, Natasha Eloi and Teddy Wilsonweigh as they reveal the latest Science Fiction topics alongside special guests. Subjects include events, movies, books, video games, comics, and other similar matter in the Sci-Fi genre. Worldwide Sci-Fi fans have the opportunity to express their opinions regarding the show and featured products through e-mail, webcam, Facebook and Twitter.[3]

History

The show has gone through many changes during its four year course but the goal has always been the same [1]. Previously known as Hyperspace and later The Circuit, the show would keep itself in change to both keep updated with Sci Fi fans and to update it's format to that of a dialogue where instead of simply recapping Space (TV channel) programming - the programming would be discussed like a forum by InnerSPACE's hosts. After finding out through showing The Circuit that one weekly show was not enough to cover the vast content Space (TV channel) had to offer, the show was updated to InnerSPACE's thirty minute format to achieve a balance of quality and quantity [1].

Cast Bios

Teddy Wilson

Teddy Wilson began his television career at a young age. Growing up in Ottawa he first starred in a series titled You Can't Do That on Television, in which Teddy and his fellow castmates performed skits based on a theme for each episode. Following high school Teddy pursued a Political Science degree. This encouraged him to follow a day job in Politics. It appears as though politics wasn’t enough for him as the entertainment industry still called his name. He began working as a TV producer for a Comedy Network show titled Popcultured with Elvira Kurt. Starting in 2005, Teddy worked for MTV, where he was a part of launching the infamous show MTV Live. Though in 2008, he left MTV to start a job as an on-air reporter with the Space Network. It wasn’t until the fall of 2009, that Teddy joined forces with Ajay Fry to co-host Innerspace. Teddy’s off air life includes playing drums in a four-piece indie rock band called Huddle. The band is centered in Toronto but was in Georgian Bay, Ontario. The bands first song is titled Islands (a piece about their roots in Georgian Bay). You can also find Teddy on his Twitter page, @TeddySPACE. [4] .

Ajay Fry

Ajay Fry was born in Toronto, Ontario in the year 1985. His parents then moved their family to Ottawa where Ajay would spend most of his childhood. At a young age he began auditioning for TV gigs in Montreal. Several jobs arouse, including parts on YTV shows like Big Wolf On Campus and Are You Afraid of the Dark. His youthful voice was also behind several characters on child television shows like Arthur, and Caillou. Teenage opportunities that enhanced Ajays interest in the industry included studying comedy under Second City comedian Ken Godmere, as well as doing voice over work for educational programs in Beijing, China. He continued his education in Comedy at Toronto’s Humber College and took part in The Second City conservatory program. Following his graduation Ajay took a job with YTV as the host of a show called Crunch, which aired Saturday mornings. It was in 2008 that Ajay joined the Space Network, first working on a show titled The Circuit, which would later be titled Innerspace. He now co-hosts Innerspace alongside Teddy Wilson. When off air Ajay can be found doing comedy work around Toronto’s local comedy clubs.[5]

Natasha Eloi (Former Cast Member)

Natasha Eloi was one of the founding members of the InnerSPACE team and a host since September 2008 [6]. Currently the InnerSPACE web page no longer acknowledges Natasha as an official host. No explanation is provided as a reason for this removal however her Blog posts still remain available. Natasha's last post was done 2:00pm EST on 6/24/11 [7].

On the show Natasha acted as On-Air Reporter and Segment Producer [6]. Natasha was born in Hammersmith, UK [8] and her interests include: Horror, Sci-fi, fantasy, comics, graphic novels, movies that are not Chick flicks, music, astronomy, photography, writing, and reading [6]. It was not until Natasha joined Space did she realize her last name Eloi had an alien association from The Time Machine (1960 film). Natasha also prefers that her style reflects her unique personality and prevents her from appearing like "a walking billboard"[9].

Involvement

In Sci Fi Promotion

InnerSPACE is involved in the promotion of new and old Sci-Fi television shows including the release of the new season of Doctor Who on April 23, 2011 [13]. Other shows include Sanctuary (TV series), Primeval, and the all new show Being Human (North American TV series). [14]. Most of their involvement includes over-views of these shows, highlights, and behind the scenes coverage. Sometimes however, InnerSPACE gets involved with live studio showings [15].

In Toronto

InnerSPACE has been very active in the Toronto Sci Fi community, particularly with their involvement in the public showing of Stargate Universe's special episode "The Greater Good" [15] On November 12, 2010 some of Space (TV channel)'s loyal fans attended this public showing which was held at CTV Television Network's Masonic Temple in Toronto, Canada[16]. The event featured the cast of Stargate Universe including Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferrira, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, Ming-Na, Julia Benson, Patrick Gilmore, Jennifer Spence, and Peter Kelamis. The creators of the show Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper were also present and as were the hosts of InnerSPACE. The goal of the event was to discuss the show Stargate Universe and allow for fans to have an exclusive autograph session with some of the cast members [16]. Thanks to InnerSPACE and Space (TV channel), those who could not make it to the live show in Toronto were given the chance to chat online with the featured cast following the broadcast of the episode[15].

Awards

Due to active Sci-Fi community involvement, InnerSPACE and its co-hosts Teddy and Ajay have been honoured by Canada's awards for excellence in science fiction film and television - The Constellation Awards. The two hosts received a high prestige award which was "Outstanding Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television" on July 16, 2011 [17]. Teddy and Ajay were nominated through popular fan response/submission and earned 39% of the vote over their competitors Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne, and author Robert J. Sawyer[17].
