Indophenol is an artificial blue metachromatic dye, obtained by the action of phenol on certain nitrogenous derivatives of quinone.[1] Indophenol resembles the color indigo in appearance. Dichlorophenol-indophenol (DCPIP), a form of indophenol, is often used to determine the presence of vitamin C, or ascorbic acid.[2]
The formation of indophenol is used to determine ammonia and paracetamol by spectrophotometry.[3]
Indophenol blue (CAS 132-31-0) is a completely different molecule with systematic name N-(p-dimethylaminophenyl)-1,4-naphthoquinoneimine.[4]
