History

IndieFlix was founded by Scilla Andreen and Carlo Scandiuzzi who felt that high quality films should have access to distribution even without major studio backing.[2] The idea was inspired by their personal experience in which Andreen and Scandiuzzi were offered distribution deals with various major distributors such as Artisan and Lions Gate but found the terms of the deal to be so stringent that it didn't seem worthwhile.[2] This prompted them to create IndieFlix for people to view and purchase independent films.

Online Video Streaming

The company offers online video streaming for a fee as well as interactive features.

Film Festivals Online

Film Festivals Online started in 2008 as a partnership with the Seattle International Film Festival and was originally known as MyFestival[3], later changed to IndieFest, and then finally to Film Festivals Online.[4] IndieFlix partners with film festivals worldwide to host Film Festivals Online. Films are free for the public to watch and vote on. The film that receives the most audience votes is awarded distribution through IndieFlix and typically also receives an Online Audience Award.[5][6]

Film Festival In A Box

Film Festival In A Box is an interactive movie game that was officially launched in October 2010 in Times Square, NY at an event attended by roughly 20,000 people.[7] Films are grouped by a genre such as comedy or chiller. Each game includes a DVD of four short films, playing instructions, discussion topics, and a trivia component. Players watch, deliberate and then vote for Best Picture, Best Story, and Best Performance at the IndieFlix website.[7]

IndieFlix Foundation

The IndieFlix Foundation, established as a Washington State non-profit in 2011, aims to introduce undiscovered filmmakers to the community, cultivate powerful film experiences, subsidize screenings in underserved communities, and re-think traditional approaches to exhibition. IndieFlix received its first grant from the Annenberg Foundation and explore.org during the 2011 Seattle International Film Festival.[8]
