The Indian Institute of Management Shillong (Hindi: भारतीय प्रबंधन संस्थान, शिलांग, abbreviated IIM Shillong or IIMS), also known as the Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (RGIIM), is an autonomous business school located in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. It was established in 2007 by the Government of India and is the seventh IIM to be established.[1]

Setting up IIMs and Central Universities in smaller cities and less developed Indian States has been a policy of the Indian Government for some time.
It was after a long drawn tussle with the neighbouring Assam that Meghalaya was granted the first IIM in North East India. The government of Meghalaya has allocated around 120 acres (0.49 km2) of land for the construction of a permanent campus in Shillong.
A temporary campus has been set up at the Mayurbhanj complex of the North Eastern Hill University for the new IIM. A permanent campus in the new Shillong township is presently under construction.
With a view to provide a holistic approach to solving business problems of the new millennium and beyond, the institute offers a tailored two years Post Graduate Diploma in Management. With a unique curriculum consisting of a mix of compulsory courses and electives,supplemented by specialized courses on industry sector, the institute aims to develop thought leaders for an economically and ecologically sustainable society. The institute lays a special emphasis on Sustainability in its academics with thrust on developing sustainable business models. It is one of its kind Business school in India, where each aspect of Management is studied from environmental and social perspective.
Like other IIMs, IIM Shillong also awards post graduate diplomas which is considered equivalent of regular MBA.[2] IIM Shillong currently offers the two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) and plans to offer other courses like the Fellow Program in Management (FPM) in future. In addition, the Institute offers Management Development Programmes (MDPs), Research and Consultancy. The institute also runs an Accelerated Learning Center (ALC) which conducts short term certificate courses.
Admission is through the Common Admission Test conducted in November each year.[3] IIM Shillong, like the other IIMs will not have any admission reservations for students from Meghalaya or North East India.[4]
The Institute offers the flagship Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), which is a two year full time residential programme for graduate students from all disciplines wanting to choose a career in management.
The Post Graduate programme commenced in the academic session 2008-09 in the temporary accommodation at Mayurbhanj Palace, which has been renovated by state Government for the purpose. The Institute began the flagship programme, namely, Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM), with an annual student intake capacity of 60 in the first year. This has been eventually increased to 100 in the third year.
IIM Shillong hosts a yearly golf tournament. The tournament spans across two days and is held in the golf course of Shillong Golf Club. On the first day the participating business schools compete amongst themselves and on the second day they compete against corporate houses. The first tournament took place in April 2009,[5] and the second tournament took place in December the same year[6] the third in November 2010 and the fourth was held in October 2011. [7]
Launched on 15 August 2008, Niveshak is the monthly finance magazine released by IIM Shillong. Realizing the potential that the idea carries, and the need of such magazine in the business world, the magazine was opened to all the B-school students with free subscription. Its widely circulated in top B-schools of India, and features Best article of month and monthly quizzes with cash prizes.Latest on Niveshak
Launched in April 2009, Markathon is a monthly Marketing magazine released by the Marketing Club, IIM Shillong. Made available in a free-to-distribute electronic format, it achieved considerable circulation within the first few months of its release, specially among the elite Indian B-schools. Written in an easy-to-understand language, Markathon aims to deconstruct marketing jargons to make the subject more accessible to students. The issues are characterized by rich images and detailed styling. The cover pages are specially remarkable and lend identity to the whole issue. The interviews of industry and academic stalwarts like Dipak C. Jain [8] are a regular feature.
