India-West, also known as "India-West Publications, Inc.", is a newspaper that serves the Indian-American population of the United States, with special emphasis on California. It focuses on issues that relate to, or affect the Indian-American community. Its head office is located in San Leandro, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. It also operates a Los Angeles bureau (based in Artesia, California) and bureau in Mumbai, India.[2] Its weekly circulation is approximately 25,000.[1]
Reporters and columnists for India-West have won more than two dozen awards since 1989.[3] These include the 2004 Society of Professional Journalists (Northern California chapter) Excellence in Journalism (Opinion, Print) award to Swetha Iyengar for her columns commenting on the second generation Indian American experience. India-West staff have also won several awards from New America Media (formerly called New California Media), and numerous awards from South Asian community or South Asian professional associations. India-West has also received awards for work by its publisher.[3]
