IDSE is an engineering cadre of Government of India.The officers of IDSE cadre work for Military Engineer Services (MES)is one of the largest Government construction agency in India and provides works cover to Army, Navy and Air Force. It has a large number of units and sub units spread across the entire country. Engineer-in-Chief is the head of MES and is assisted by six Command Chief Engineers who are co-located and under the operational Army Commands, Additional Director Generals at Pune and Secunderabad and 31 Zonal Chief Engineers. Besides works of the Armed Forces, MES also undertake civil works of Defence Research and Development Organization, Coast Guard, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghathan, and other government organizations.
This Service is being provided by MES to facilitate faster dissemination and easy access to information related to tenders. The tenders, however are owned, published and maintained by the respective MES formations that are responsible for their accuracy, authenticity and validity. The officers are sellected through Engineering Services Examination(ESE) conducted by Union Public Service Commission every year.The applications for ESE are invited in the month of January and written exam is conducted in the month of June every year.On the basis of ESE shortlisted candidates are called for interview in the month of January or February.On the basis of the marks obtained by candidate in written exam and interview and on the basis of preferences of candidate out of all engineering cadres IDSE cadre is alloted to the successful candidate. A newly appointed officer of IDSE cadre starts his carrier with post of Assistant Garrison Engineer of Group'A' service of Indian Government.After a period of 4 to 5 years officer gets a promotion and known as Garrison Engineer.The post of Garrison Engineer is very powerful and black Ambassador car with red beacon light is alloted.
