Iain Ramsay (born 27 February 1988 in Perth) is an Australian born football (soccer) player who currently plays for Adelaide United in the Australian A-League.

Career

Ramsay brought up in Sydney, moved overseas to kickstart his career. With a successful trial in Scotland, Ramsay signed a youth contract with Gretna FC. Ramsay played for the youth and reserve team at Gretna FC though was unsuccessful on gaining a first team contract with the Scottish 1st Division Club. Ramsay then came back to Australia to play in the New South Wales Premier League for Sydney Olympic before being snapped up by Sydney FC for their youth team in the 2009-10 season.[1] In 2010 he made his first senior team debut for recently crowned Premiers Sydney FC in their first leg semi-final loss against Melbourne Victory.[2]

Ramsay signed for New South Wales Premier League team Sydney Olympic, returning to the club he played for as a youth [3]

Adelaide United

On 23 July 2010, Ramsay signed a one year professional contract with Adelaide United.[4] And on the 20 August 2010, Ramsay scored two goals against Melbourne Heart, to help Adelaide win the game.[5] His third goal for Adelaide came against his former club Sydney FC in a come from behind 2-1 victory. Ramsay scored in Extra Time to give Adelaide the 3 points.[6]

International

Apart from Australia, Ramsay is eligible to represent the Philippines through his mother's heritage.[7] He aims of playing for Australia but also considers the Philippines as a great option if he is not able to get a call-up from the Australian national team. He is also eligible to play for Scotland through his father who is originally from Edinburgh.[7]
