INTI International University (IU), Laureate International Universities is a private university located in Putra Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur. It was known as INTI University College until 31 May 2010 when the Higher Education Ministry announced its upgrade to university status. It is owned by INTI Education Group which has formalised its partnership with Laureate International Universities (the world’s largest and fastest growing private education network) in 2008. Programmes offered in IU include pre-university and foundation studies, diploma, degrees (home-grown and overseas transfers), and postgraduate degrees.

The name INTI was chosen to reflect the college's emphasis on quality in education — the hallmark of INTI College. The name INTI means "innermost" in Latin. The college motto, 'Quality, the essence of INTI', reflects the ongoing vision of INTI's leaders and staff members.

History

The college open in 1986 in Bangunan Sim Lim, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. At it inception, the college enrol only 37 students, but within 18 month the student population exceed 400. Enrolment continue to climb, and in 1989 the college was re-located to Jalan Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur.

Two year later, with more than 900 full-time student, the college establish a permanent campus: INTI College Subang Jaya (ICSJ). In 1991 and 1996 INTI open branch campus in Kuching, Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

INTI College Malaysia (ICM), the main campus, was establish on 82 acres (330,000 m2) of land in Putra Nilai in 1998. In March 2000, INTI acquir International College Penang which is strategically located in the Bukit Jambul education township. In 2004, INTI continue to expand with three new associate campuse: Genting INTI International College (which was closed down due to a lack of profit,which in INTI's MOTO), Metropolitan College and PJ College of Art & Design. To date, INTI has nine associate campuse in Malaysia.

On 4 September 2006, ICM received the Ministry of Higher Education approval for upgrade to university college status. ICM became INTI University College (INTI-UC).

On 1 June, 2010, INTI-UC receive its upgrades to a full university from Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

In 2008, INTI merged with Laureate International Universities, becoming the first university in Malaysia, chosen to be Laureate International Education Group member.

The first tertiary education institution in the country to be awarded the Certificate of Appreciation for Achievement in Trade by the United States Department of Commerce for its multinational cooperation via academic collaboration.

The award was presented to the then chairman of INTI, Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Haji Abdul Majid Ismail.

2004 INTI College Malaysia was awarded the National Creativity and Innovation Award 2004, which recognizes the company's use of creativity and innovation in its product development and promotion. Minister of International Trade and Industry Malaysia, Dato' Seri Rafidah Aziz.

2006 The Minister of Higher Education approved INTI College Malaysia's upgrading to University College status (now, INTI University College, Malaysia). Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Mustapa.
2007 INTI received the Associate College Certificate from the University of Bradford (UK).

INTI is the first International Associate College of the University of Bradford.

On average, more than 30% of INTI-UC Engineering alumni graduating from UK and Australian universities such as University of Leeds, University of Bradford, University of Manchester, University of Nottingham, University of Birmingham, University of Adelaide, etc. received 1st Class Honours each year since 1998.
