The Independent Book Publishers Association (formerly PMA, Publishers Marketing Association) is a trade association of independent publishers founded in 1983. With more than 3000 members, it is the largest association of independent publishers in the United States. IBPA assists in marketing the membership's titles to the trade (bookstores, libraries, reviewers) by sharing the cost of marketing programs, offers educational programming to help publishers understand all aspects of the business and acts as an industry advocate for its members. IBPA hosts the Benjamin Franklin Awards and presents the yearly Publishing University, a two-day program of more than 50 seminars to educate both new and experienced publishers.
