The Holland Symfonia is a Dutch symphony orchestra, based in Haarlem, The Netherlands. The term "Symfonia" derives from an amalgam of the Dutch word symfonie and the Italian word sinfonia. The orchestra has administrative offices in both Haarlem and Amsterdam.
The Holland Symfonia was established on 1 January 2002 after a merger of the Het Nationale Ballet Orchestra and the Noordhollands Philharmonisch Orkest (North Holland Philharmonic Orchestra). The orchestra primarily gives symphonic concerts at the Philharmonie Haarlem, and continues as the principal orchestra for Het Nationale Ballet at Het Muziektheater, Amsterdam. The orchestra also accompanies touring opera productions in various cities by the Nationale Reisopera. The orchestra numbers about 140-150 players.[1]
