Herschel Sims is a college running back for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He is from Abilene, Texas.[1]

Early Life

Sims was the victim of child abuse when he was only 6 or 7 years old. His step-father and mother were eventually arrested and sent to prison, him for the abuse and her for not reporting it. “It was a rough, rough time,” Sims told a TV station. “I pretty much remember like it was yesterday.” [2]

High School

Sims played high school football for in the Abilene High School Eagles.He will begin playing for the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Fall 2011. Sporting News ranked him as their number 14 best college recruit. Rivals.com said that he was the fourth best back in the country.In 2010, part of Sims' final high school football season was profiled on the MTV documentary series, World of Jenks

Recruiting

One of the most sought after signatures in the 2010 class Sims pledged early to Oklahoma State, but was frequently listed as a soft commitment. Supposedly the teams hounding him were Texas A&M and Texas Christian, but Sims fended them off only to be reportedly mulling a late offer from Auburn. [3] However he stuck to his original commitment and signed with Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma State University

Reported in June to summer training camp at 208 pounds. He looks to garner some playing time at the running back position as a true freshman.[5]

Played his first collegiate game against conference for Kansas. Sims scored his first touchdown against the Jayhawks as well. Had 2 100 yard games against Baylor and Texas Tech. [6]
