Hassanabad (Hindi: हसनाबाद) is a Shia dominated area of Srinagar district, Kashmir, India. It is located on the western banks of the Dal Lake. The population is approximately 4000.
It has one of the oldest Shia mosques of Srinagar. Shia mosques are called Imam Baras. The foundation Of Hassanabad was laid by the late Baba Hassan who was the son of Baba Ali Najjaar who was killed with the great saint Shams-Ud-Din Iraqi whose tomb is in Zadibal area of Srinagar and in a village called Chodur.
The heir's of Baba Hassan (founder of Hassanabad) still live in Hassanabad as Haji Muhammad Afzal Baba, Mohd Shafi Baba, Hafizullah Baba and Ghulam Hassan Baba, in the Shaal-e-bagh area of Zadibal.
Hassanabad is a hometown of poets and scholars like the late Syed Akbar Jaipuri,whose family still lives in Hassanabad.
