Harur(தமிழ்:'அரூர்') is a panchayat in Dharmapuri district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. There are two Revenue divisions present in Dharmapuri District one among them is Harur. Harur is rich in high quality black granites, which are present in huge quantities in this area. Black granites are exported to Europe and other places where there is a high demand for these types of granite.

Harur is located at .[1] It has an average elevation of 350 metres (1148 feet). Harur is situated along the Salem and (via Harur) Chennai State Highway 18.
As of 2001[update] India census,[2] Harur had a population of 20,346. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Harur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 68%. In Harur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. Most of the people living in the area are farmers.
Theerthamalai is an important sacred place in Harur taluk of Dharmapuri District. The Shri Theerthagirishwarar Temple is located at the top of a hillock. Chola and Vijayanagara Kings donated liberally to this temple. A lot of devotees throng the temple during the Mahashivarathiri. The Department of Tourism has Guest Houses for the benefit of the devotees. Theerthamalai is an important tourist spot in Dharmapuri District. Sitheri is also known for its sandal wood.
Sitheri is an important tourist spot known for the herbs and other valuable natural resources. It is plush green and a pleasant tourist destination. It is 15 km from Harur. Vaani Dam is an important tourist attraction for locals.

Harur is well connected for road transport. The main mode of transport for local people are buses. The bus frequency is high for the following places - Chennai, Salem, Coimbatore, Erode, Vellore(N.A) and Tirupathi.

Molybdenum, a rare mineral, was found around Harur(VelaamPatti) by the Ministry of Mines around 2004, and this is the only source of Molybdenum in India. The ability of molybdenum to withstand extreme temperatures without significantly expanding or softening makes it useful in applications that involve intense heat, including the manufacture of aircraft parts, electrical contacts, industrial motors and filaments.
Harur assembly constituency is part of Dharmapuri (Lok Sabha constituency).[3]
