Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus is the second soundtrack album from the Disney Channel original series Hannah Montana. The album was released on June 26, 2007 by Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records. In the television series and film, American recording artist and actress Miley Cyrus portrays Miley Stewart, a girl with a secret double life as pop star Hannah Montana. The two-disc "hybrid" album is the follow-up to the series' first soundtrack Hannah Montana (2006), and also acts as the debut release of Cyrus. Cyrus performs all of the soundtrack's 20 tracks, while being credited to Hannah Montana for half of them. The album sold 5,000,000 copies.[1]
The album is separated with two discs. The first disc, entitled Hannah Montana 2 features ten recordings by the character of Hannah Montana, while the second disc, entitled Meet Miley Cyrus, features ten tracks by Cyrus. Though the Meet Miley Cyrus album was intended to be Cyrus' debut album, it failed to gain any recognition as the songs in the album seemed to have a similar sound to that of Hannah Montana.[2]
During its first week of sales, it debuted in the U.S. at number one on the Billboard 200 with 326,000 album copies sold.[3] The album, having sold 3,900,000 copies in the U.S, has been RIAA-certified 3× multi platinum.
Sales and chart positions
The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and sold 326,000 copies, selling faster in its first week than the previous soundtrack, which sold 281,000 copies during its debut week.[3] On the strength of holiday season sales, the album returned and remained in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 in December on the strength of holiday season sales, and sold more than 700,000 copies during that period. It is Cyrus' best selling album to date.[4] In the UK, the album debuted at #9 on the Compilations chart for the week beginning July 15, 2007; eventually peaking at #8. In Australia, the album debuted at #86 on the ARIA Albums Chart, later reaching the Top 20 it re entered at no.44 and was certified Platinum for shipments of 70.000 units. In New Zealand the album went Gold selling over 7,500 copies. In Venezuela, the album debuted at #5 and stayed in the Top 10 for over 3 weeks. In Japan, Walt Disney Records released a special edition of the album, Hannah Montana 2: Rock Star Edition on December 5, 2007. Walt Disney Records also released a karaoke version of the album called Disney Karaoke Series: Hannah Montana 2 was released exclusively to Wal-Mart for a limited time in 2007, then was re-released to other stores on September 16, 2008.
