Handwara (Kankee language means Kashmiri: हंदवारा (Devanagari), ہندوارہ (Nastaleeq)) is a beautiful town and is under Municipal Committee in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Handwara had a population of 10,624. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%.
