Hanamkonda

Hanamkonda or Hanumakonda is the name given to places named after God Hanuman.

Hanamkonda or Hanmakonda, used to be called as Hanuma - Konda a village founded by two brothers Hanumaiah and Kondaiah during the Kakatiya dynasty, who established many Hanuman temples to protect the Orugallu empire from evil demons. You will find several Hanuman temples in Warangal-Hanamkonda city which is why this city was named Hanmakonda.

As mythological scriptures says, when the great monkey God, Lord Hanuman was returning with the Sanjeevini mountain to Lanka, a few stones fell out of the mountain and formed hills here in Hanamkonda. History has it that there was big time mining of diamonds that once used to be found in the valley of Hanamkonda during the Kakatiya era.

It is believed that Hanuman first set out to Lanka from Mahendragiri hills which is near Hanuma Konda. Konda in many southern dialects means 'get'. So the place name could mean 'Hanuman got' as Hanuman is instrumental in getting Sita from Lanka.
