Hanachirasu

Hanachirasu (刃鳴散らす?, lit. Blade Cry Scatter) is a Japanese eroge visual novel by Nitroplus released September 30, 2005. Like many Nitroplus titles it is both an action and graphically dark visual novel.

Plot and Setting

The story takes place in an alternate universe where Japan maintained its colonies but still lost to America in 1945. However in 1970 an armed uprising puts Japan into martial law and later events lead to the mass banning of all firearms, the mass resignation of the Japanese Diet members, and finally the expulsion of foreigners.

The game itself takes place in early 21st century Tokyo, which has been transformed into a haven for Japanese culture thanks to the nationalistic ideals of the charismatic Ishima Kaigen. Strict policies are in place in to enforce a ban upon firearms within the city limits. Thus, though terrorism and power struggles run rampant, swordplay, not gunfire, claims the lives of those not powerful to stake out their claims here. Tokyo thus becomes a center of lawlessness and terrorism.

The story follows the exploits of a young bishōnen named Akane Takeda, an expert in Kenjutsu.
