Halkyn (Welsh: Helygain, Flintshire Welsh: Lygian) is a village in Flintshire, north-east Wales and situated between Pentre Halkyn, Northop and Rhosesmor. At the 2001 Census the population of the community was 2,876.[1]

Halkyn is one of the ancient parishes of Flintshire, originally comprising the townships of Hendrefigillt, Lygan y Llan and Lygan y Wern. The areas was notable during the Roman occupation for the mining of lead. The village was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Alchene, when it was then part of Cheshire, in England.
Halkyn also had many pubs back in the day there was lots of pubs such as the Crown Inn now known as crown cottages also the Royal Oak Halkyn now known as the Old Royal Oak, Raven known as Raven Cottage located in The Catch and the award winning Blue Bell Inn which is still serving a pint for the villagers to enjoy today. There was also a few shops there was a butchers a post office originally run from Holly House then after moved over the road which has now closed also the Crown Inn was a shop up until 1892 when it was licensed as a beer house and also there was a shop located at a house called Swn y Mynnyd now a private house.
The village has a post office, a parish church, a public house and a library, but few other facilities.
Note that the post office closed in April 2011 but a new location is being sought nearby. Two public house's The Britannia and the Blue Bell Inn http://www.BlueBell.uk.eu.org/
