Hainaut (French pronunciation: [ɛno]; Dutch: Henegouwen, IPA: [ˈɦeːnəˌɡɔuwə(n)] ( listen); German: Hennegau; Walloon: Hinnot; Picard: Hénau) province of Wallonia, one of the three regions of Belgium. It borders (clockwise from the North) in Belgium on the provinces of West Flanders, East Flanders, Flemish Brabant (Flanders) and those of Walloon Brabant and Namur (Wallonia), and on France. Its capital is Mons. It has an area of 3,800 km² which is divided into seven administrative districts (French: arrondissements) containing 69 municipalities. The province derives from the medieval County of Hainaut, parts of which are now in the neighbouring Nord department of France.
