HackShield is a set of anti-hack toolkits developed for MMOs. It is being used in games such as Combat Arms, Dragonica, MapleStory, Mabinogi, War Rock, Kal Online, Shot Online and Ace Online.[1] Hackshield is developed by AhnLab Inc, a Korean security solutions company. It has been available to Korean game developers since 2001[1] and American game developers since 2005.[2]

AhnLab HackShield For Online Game has numerous errors leading to hacks, for example in Combat Arms. security features like Executable File Encryption, but lacks the 'hardware' banning system of industry rival PunkBuster.[4] HackShield installs its device driver when the game utilising HackShield is installed. On later operating systems such as Windows 7, it blocks the use of compatibility mode and other features as part of anti-cheat detection. Many games that use AhnLab HackShield have openly available hacks made by individuals online.
