The Gweno are a Chaga ethnic and linguistic group based in the northernmost part of the Pare Mountains in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. In 2000 the ethnic Gweno population was estimated to number somewhere over 2,000, with their nearly extinct language spoken mostly by older adults, while younger Gweno have shifted to Asu and Swahili.[1]
