Guy Rubino is a Canadian chef and host of the Food Network Canada show Made to Order. He is formerly the executive chef and co-owner of Rain, a fine dining restaurant in Toronto, Canada. Rain has been closed and will re-open with a new concept (traditional Japanese vs. Rain's fusion) called Ame (Japanese for Rain) and is set to open in June 2009. Ame closed in August 2011.

Raised at the heart of a traditional Italian family in St. Catharines, Rubino developed a passion for food. He currently lives in Toronto.

Career

Rubino attended Carleton University to study Political Science and Economics, and transferred to University of Toronto in 1987. That same year he opened his first restaurant Gourmet Greens, a high-end café and catering service. After it became a success, he spent the following 8 years working at several restaurants in the New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco, in some cases for free. Back in Toronto, the two brothers opened Zoom Caffé and Bar in 1996. Rain followed in 2001, with a fine Asian-inspired menu. In 2004, they opened the modern Italian restaurant Luce, which closed in 2006.

TV show

Guy and Michael Rubino started talks with Food Network Canada in 2001 to make a show about the behind-the-scenes in a high-end restaurant. In 2003, Made to Order aired on Food Network Canada for the first time, showcasing the running of the restaurant Rain.

Trivia

Rubino enjoys playing bad music, loudly, much to his neighbour's delight. He also plays his drums late into the night as well as the guitar in his free time.

Rubino's cuisine is as tortured as his taste in music.

Guy lost to Iron Chef Michael Symon on Iron Chef America which aired on July 13, 2008. The secret ingredient was rabbit.
