Gurazala is a semi town and mandal located in the northwestern parts of Guntur district. It is administrative hub (capitol) of region Palnadu. According to 2001 censes, it has 24,550 population made up of 12,430 male and 12,120 female.

The town represents MLA in the assembly, ACP, Government General Hospital, LIC, Sub Register, NGO and Sub Court (next to the district court) of the region. There are around thirteen villages (Daida, Pulipadu, Gottemukkala, Jangamaheshwarapuram, Gangavaram, Ambapuram, Pallegunta, Anjanapuram, Charlagudipadu, Janardhana puram, Telukutla and Madugula) in this mandal make up to 30,000 inhabitants, mostly farmers. Culturally and economically the town is closely tied up with the surrounding thirteen villages. This town is also known for its friendliness, tranquil, fun, peace and harmony among different social groups.

History

This town is in the heart of Palnadu, and has a legendary history of over a thousand years. The famous battle Palnati Yudhdham (War of Palnadu) took place between Gurazala and Macherla between 1176 AD - 1182 AD.At Karampudi (yuddabhoomi). In many scripts the war was referred as Andhra Kurukshetra. Malakannmadas bhramhanaidu datta puthrudu senpathi of the macharla army he was very power full man..

Well known Telugu "Srinathudu" lived in this area during later part of his life.

Sri Ista kameswara swamy temple, was built during Palanati story. People used to say that, this siva lingam pratistapana was done by Brahmanaidu. One more story in popular about this temple is Telugu great poet SRINADHUDU, visited this temple and stayed in this temple.

This town has four movie theaters, two socializing clubs along with a sports club and a cricket ground. Because of its proximity to the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam and Etthipothala waterfalls, many people of this town visit the two places often.

In a nearby village, a cave temple popularly known as Daida Amaralingeswaraswami Guha, is located at the shore of sacred river Kirshna. The naturally formed cave has around 800m in length which attracts many tourists from all around the state. Recntly srinivasa theater was modified into satyanarayana INOX...

Famous Personalities

Bramha Naidu, lived in Gurazala but moved to Marcherla due to the internal disputes.

Nagamma, led the army against Macherla in the war.

Kaneganti Hanumanthu, a prominent freedom fighter, was born in Gurazala Taluka. He rebelled against the British Rule and started the Palnadu Rebellion against tax. He was shot dead by a General Rutherford.

Blessed with canals of near by Nagarjunasagar Dam, most of the town depends on agriculture (rice, cotton and chillis). Small to large scale business and industries (Water purifier factory, Milk Diary, Big Rice mills, Chillies cold storage, cattle market (opens once a week)... etc.) also play vital role in town's economy. Most likely a 4,200-acre (17 km2) solar city project is proposed to get launched soon in a nearby village called Daida, which creates around 2,500 jobs in the area...
