Gummidipoondi (Tamil: கும்மிடிபூண்டி) is an industrial town in Thiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Gummdipoondi lies on the National Highway 5 from Chennai to Calcutta. This road is part of the Golden Quadrilateral which is a project launched by the Vajpayee Government. Gummidipoondi prides itself on housing two important factories, Dupont Fibers and Hitech Carbon (an Aditya Birla Group company), also known as Birla Carbon. Subsequently, DuPont Fibres has been taken over by SRF Limited. SRF stands for Shriram Fibres Limited and is the 8th largest producer of nylon tyre cord fabric in the world.In SIPCOT it has more than 50 steel plants, rolling Mills . Steel Plants play a main role in this area. Bharath Petroleum has placed a LPG filling station near New Gummidipoondi. It is surrounded pristine, fertile villages with abundant fresh water access.
In SIPCOT, 230/110 KV transmission Substation of TNEB is situated and one of modern substation in Tamil Nadu. On the way to SIPCOT, Tamil Nadu Petrochemicals Limited (TNPL) which also provdies 60MW power to 110KV grid of Gummidipoondi substation, as captive power plant.
