Gulistan-e-Jauhar

Gulistan-e-Jauhar or Gulistan-e-Johar (Urdu: گلستانِ جوهر) is one of the major neighbourhoods of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. This neighborhood is named after Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar.

There are several ethnic groups in Gulistan-e-Jauhar including Muhajirs, Punjabis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Balochis, Memons, Bohras, Ismailis, etc. Over 99% of the population is Muslim. The population of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town is estimated to be nearly one million.

Commercial and residential zones

Rabia City, the biggest housing scheme in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, is located near the Jauhar Chowrangi. It has a school, a health clinic, three gymnasiums and two mosques as main public facilities. All the shops are situated in commercial block of Rabia City. Economically, it is considered one of the best places in Karachi to live for the middle.

Apart from above, there are several big projects along with markets and shops like Johar Square,Iqra Complex, Noman Gardens,Noman grand city, Ahmed Residency, Madina Comforts, Gray Gardens, Asaish Appartments, Noman Heaven,Sana Avenue,Safari Bolevard,Afnan Arcade,gulshan-e-amin, Sumaira Avenue, Decent Tower, Abdullah Heights, Decent Gardens, Samama Shopping Centre, Kehkashan Terrace etc. The biggest housing Societies in Gulistan-e-Jouhar are Sindh Baloch Co-operative Housing Society (SBCHS),Architects & Engineers cooperative society Block-08 and PIA Housing Society located in Block-12 of Gulistan-e-Jouhar. In SBCHS, there are two Mosques, two schools, park, Libraries, Madarsahs, One Hospital and clinic, shopping centre and markets.

Religious places

There are many Mosques in Gulistan-e-Jauhar ,included 3 Imam Barghas ,1.Sahib-uz-zaman 2. Akhir-uz-Zaman 3.Hussaini Imam bargha(phelwangoth)and also Madarssa Ibn-e-Abbas‎ & Library.madrassa is Jamia Darul Khair. Since Gulistan-e-Jauhar is divided in twenty-two blocks, and usually every block has at least one mosque. However, flat & apartment buildings have a mosque inside their premises. One of the biggest Religious University is in Gulistan-e-Jouhar Block-12 in Sindh Baloch Co-operative Housing Society (SBCHS) named Ashraf-ul-Madaris. Where there are hostels, libraries both for men and women, 2 mosques.

Utilities

A post office is located in Block-14, whereas, the PTCL Gulistan-e-Jauhar exchange is located in Block-12 (behind Rado shopping area). Most of the banks operating in Pakistan have their branches located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar including Standard Chartered Bank, Habib Metropolitan Bank, CitiBank, MCB Bank, Meezan Bank, Soneri Bank, Faysal Bank Ltd. NIB Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland - RBS, Bank AlHabib Ltd., Bank Alfalah, Bank Islami Ltd., etc.

Health services

The most famous hospital in the vicinity is Dar-ul-Sehat Hospital located in Block-15 and Batool General Hospital located in Block-5, whereas, there are various other hospitals and laboratories like Agha Khan Hospital laboratory, Eesa laboratory, Shifa medical and welfare clinic, Sind Specialist clinic. Agha Khan Hospital laboratory and Essa laboratory are located in Block-7 near Mosmiaat chowrangi.

Transportation

Gulistan-e-Jauhar has a good transportation connection to the rest of the city. Buses run at regular intervals to most parts of the city, including Saddar, Tower, Clifton, Defence, Tariq Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Civic Center etc.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar is also adjacent to Jinnah International Airport, one of the major airports in South Asia, handling around 6 million passengers every year.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar is also connected via the defunct. Karachi Circular Train. Although the train is out of service, the physical infrastructure stays and can be used for any similar future project.

The area around Jauhar Chowrangi roundabout is considered to have trafficking issues as most of the neighborhood's banks, markets, restaurants, bakeries and hardware shops are located around it.
