Grenada County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2010, the population was 21,906. Its county seat is Grenada[1]. Grenada County is named for the Spanish province of Granada.

The Grenada Micropolitan Statistical Area includes all of Grenada County.

According to the 2000 census, the county has a total area of 449.38 square miles (1,163.9 km2), of which 421.79 square miles (1,092.4 km2) (or 93.86%) is land and 27.58 square miles (71.4 km2) (or 6.14%) is water.[2]

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 23,263 people, 8,820 households, and 6,297 families residing in the county. The population density was 55 people per square mile (21/km²). There were 9,973 housing units at an average density of 24 per square mile (9/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 57.92% White, 40.93% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 87.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $27,385, and the median income for a family was $33,115. Males had a median income of $28,969 versus $21,567 for females. The per capita income for the county was $13,786. About 17.60% of families and 20.90% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.30% of those under age 18 and 26.40% of those age 65 or over.
