Greg McClinchey (born in Clinton, Ontario) was a municipal councillor for the Township of North Huron, Ontario (Blyth Ward) and was the nominated candidate in Huron-Bruce for the Liberal Party of Canada in the 2008 federal election.
As a student at Central Huron Secondary School, Greg McClinchey began a co-operative education placement with Paul Steckle, Member of Parliament-elect for Huron-Bruce. Subsequent to that, McClinchey began working as an assistant to Paul Steckle, both in the constituency office in Goderich and in Ottawa.[1]
There are approximately 900 staffers working on Parliament Hill and in the Sixth Annual Terrific Twenty-Five Staffer Survey, Greg McClinchey received ninth place. He received this recognition as an acknowledgment of his knowledge, influence, access, discretion and all-round personality.[2]
In 2007, McClinchey published a biography on Paul Steckle, entitled Stickin’ to His Guns. The book is a “through-the-keyhole” look at the private elements of Paul Steckle’s public life.[3] McClinchey received a formal citation from the publisher for the editorial quality of the manuscript.[4]
McClinchey holds a professional certificate in conflict management and is a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario. McClinchey actively contributes to the community through his involvement in the Blyth Business Association, the Blyth Arena board, and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.[5] In addition, McClinchey volunteers with numerous community and charitable groups including the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the MS Society of Canada and he freely provides his time and energy to various seniors groups as a motivational and/or guest speaker.
Raised on a small farm in Central Huron, Ontario (the former Hullett Township, Ontario), McClinchey is a seventh generation resident of Huron County.[6] McClinchey currently resides in Ottawa, Ontario, with his wife, Julie McClinchey (née McNichol), his daughter, Mieka McClinchey and son, Koby McClinchey.
