Grand Junction is located at (42.031161, -94.235377).[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 964 people, 369 households, and 257 families residing in the city. The population density was 999.1 people per square mile (387.7/km2). There were 407 housing units at an average density of 421.8 per square mile (163.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.24% White, 0.10% African American, 0.10% Asian, 1.04% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.93% of the population.

There were 369 households out of which 35.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% were non-families. 27.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.20.

In the city the population was spread out with 30.9% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 17.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 102.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $27,875, and the median income for a family was $34,875. Males had a median income of $27,727 versus $19,565 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,733. About 11.5% of families and 14.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.5% of those under age 18 and 15.0% of those age 65 or over.
