Mixed martial arts career

Reljic trains with the Gracie Barra UK camp. In 2007, Reljic swept the European Gracie Jiu Jitsu Championships by winning both the 93 kg and absolute categories.[1]

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Reljic made his UFC debut at light heavyweight against Wilson Gouveia at UFC 84 where he won in the second round by TKO. He then dropped down to middleweight.[2]

His next fight was slated to be at UFC 90 against Thales Leites, but Reljic sustained a serious back injury and was replaced by Drew McFedries. He would not return to active competition for nearly two years.

Reljic finally made his return and faced C.B. Dollaway on February 21, 2010 at UFC 110, where he would be making his middleweight debut.[3] Reljic lost the fight via unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the bout 29-28.

Reljic faced Kendall Grove on July 3, 2010 at UFC 116 and lost via split decision.[4] [5]

Reljic returned to the light heavyweight division and faced Krzysztof Soszynski on November 13, 2010 at UFC 122.[6] After losing the fight via unanimous decision, Reljic was released from the promotion.[7]

In his first post UFC fight, Reljic faced Goran Scepanovic on October 7, 2011 at BEFN 6 where he won by TKO at 1:31 of the first round.

Personal

Goran Reljic is from the coastal town of Zadar, Croatia. During his rehabilitation of his back injury, Reljic risked his life to rescue two men who had crashed their car into the Adriatic Sea.

According to the Slobodna Dalmacija newspaper, Reljic was in bed when the car lost control and crashed into the sea. When Goran heard the crash, he jumped out of bed (still in his underwear) and jumped into the sea. He swam to the car, proceeded to break the windshield of the vehicle and pull both men to land. Several eyewitness accounts confirm the story. Both men survived. Goran does not speak about the accident in subsequent interviews and doesn't want any praise or recognition for the good deed stating that "The only satisfaction I get is that both young men are alive and healthy, I don't need any praise, I simply did what anyone one would have done in that situation,".[8]
