Glapum'tian

Glapum'tians are a fictional, alien species created by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières in the French comic book series Valérian and Laureline.

Glapum'tians are large, light-blue-coloured, aquatic vegetarian creatures that mostly resemble a cross between mammals and octopuses. They are known throughout the galaxy for their extraordinary skills in mathematics. Even a single Glapum'tian can perform advanced mathematical calculations in its brain faster than a normal supercomputer. They are a very peaceful and friendly species, and have also adapted their mathematics skills to self-defense. If a Glapum'tian feels threatened, it instantly computes the fastest and best way to get out of harm's way. As a result, it is impossible to hit a Glapum'tian with any kind of projectile whatsoever - they always dodge them instantly, with great ease. When looking for a Glapum'tian to take back to Earth, Valérian was aware of this, and instead offered it a large salad he had laced with a non-toxic narcotic substance. Valérian was thus able to take the sleeping Glapum'tian to his spaceship.
