History

Westinghouse was originally housed in a former candy factory. That building was designed by Schmidt, Garden and Martin in 1920 and was one of the largest examples of the Chicago School architectural style. It was converted to a high school building in the 1960s.[2]

For many years an area basketball powerhouse,[5] Westinghouse has produced four NBA players: Mark Aguirre,[6] Eddie Johnson,[7] Hersey Hawkins,[8] and Kiwane Garris.[9] The school won the Illinois Class AA Boys' Basketball Championship in 2002 and reached the 2000 title game before losing to West Aurora High School.[5]
