George Siemens is a theorist[1] on learning in a digitally based society. He is the author of the article Connectivism: A Learning Theory for the Digital Age and the book Knowing Knowledge - an exploration of the impact of the changed context and characteristics of knowledge.
He was the Associate Director in the Learning Technologies Centre at the University of Manitoba, and has since accepted a position with Athabasca University.[2]
In 2008, Siemens and Stephen Downes designed and taught an online, open course (also known as a Massive open online course, or MOOC) reported as a "landmark in the small but growing push toward 'open teaching.'"[3]
