George "Shorty" Redding (March 6, 1900 in Peterborough, Ontario – October 17, 1974) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He played two seasons in the National Hockey League, for the Boston Bruins.[1]
Redding once filled in as the Bruins goaltender when regular netminder Hec Fowler was injured during a game against the Toronto St. Pats. He would allow 1 goal in just over 10 minutes of play to give him a career GAA of 5.45. Redding would only play 35 career NHL games at his regular defence position.
On December 22nd 1924, Boston Bruins' first season in the National Hockey League, Norman "Hec" Fowler had allowed 9 goals go past him against the Toronto St. Pats. The Bruins decided it was time to change goaltenders, and time was called while George Redding resumed the armor of the job. Play resumed, Redding at goal for the Bruins. The new goalie, whose regular position is on the wing, got a big hand when he stopped his first shot.
