Gardein

Gardein (pronounced gar-deen) is a brand name of a line of plant-based foods manufactured by Garden Protein International Ltd., in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, [1] and is marketed throughout the United States and Canada in a variety of supermarket and grocery store chains such as Whole Foods Market, Krogers, Publix, Ralph's, and Safeway Inc.[2]. The word Gardein is a portmanteau of garden and protein.

Gardein is made from a blend of soy, wheat and pea proteins, vegetables and organic ancient grains (quinoa, amaranth, millet, and khorasan wheat').[3]

Gardein is also featured in Chef Tal Ronnen's vegan cookbook, The Conscious Cook. [1]. A New York Times Best-seller,[4] The Conscious Cook features some recipes using Gardein such as the recipe for Gardein “chicken” scaloppini with shiitake sake sauce, braised pea shoots, and crispy udon noodle cakes. [5]

Foods from Gardein have been featured on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" [6] and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" [7] including national and local morning and news talk shows in the US and Canada.

In 2010, Gardein was awarded "Product of the Year" by VegNews Magazine [8] and Shape Magazine [9] named Gardein Seven Grain Crispy Tenders a "Best Snack" that year. In 2011, Gardein received"The Good Food Award" from Natural Health Magazine and was the recipient of the "Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards" [10] for its Gardein Seven Grain Crispy Tenders and Gardein Homestyle Beefless Tips.
