GameDuell was founded in 2003 by Boris Wasmuth, Kai Bolik and Michael Kalkowski[2] with branch offices in Asia and San Francisco, and has now more than 170 employees worldwide.
According to AppData, as of August 2011, GameDuell games on Facebook had over 3 million monthly active users.[3] The company has so far developed 10 mobile applications across Android, WebOS and iOS.[4] Additionally, the company has developed over 60 flash based games on their own tournament platform and has products available in 9 languages worldwide.[5]
The Company received over $17 million (€11 million) in funding from Wellington Partners in an effort to accelerate its expansion into other European countries and the United States. This was in addition to the earlier funding from Holtzbrinck Ventures and Burda Digital Ventures in 2004.[6]
