GameCola is a comedy-oriented independent videogame review website that features videogame reviews, columns, fanfiction, webcomics, podcasts, and videos.

History

GameCola was established by then Shawnee High School junior Paul Franzen and various writers from the South Jersey area in 2002. It was originally created in an e-zine format, in which magazine-like issues were released online on a monthly basis. In January 2010, the site converted to a WordPress-based real-time format.

Content

One of the biggest differences between GameCola and most other videogame review sites is that GameCola's reviews have a "five is average" policy. This means that, while other websites may consider 7 to be a lackluster score for a game, GameCola sees a score of 7 as being complimentary to the game.

In addition to reviews, GameCola has a stable of recurring columns written by various staff members, including:

GameCola also features a semi-regular podcast, several webcomics, and a YouTube page with playthroughs and walkthroughs of videogames, with commentary from GameCola writers.
