Gadhia

The Gadhia are a Hindu scheduled caste found in the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in India.[1]

Origin and present circumstances

The Gadhia are a little known nomadic community found in Mathura District. They speak both the Brajboli dialect and standard Hindi. The Gadhia are an endogamous community and practice village exogamy.[2]

The Gadhia were traditionally a nomadic pastoral community, moving their cattle all along the Yamuna valley. They are now a community of agricultural labourers, and their settlements are found at the end of villages throughout Mathura District.
