Gadhakda is a village in Savarkundla tehsil in the Amreli district of India. Gadhakda was formerly under the control of Junagadh State. Although it is presently a part of the Amreli district, it was once a part of the Bhavnagar district.

History

History of Gadhakda village goes back 300 years. Gadhakda is presently located in Savarkundla tahsil of Amreli district. Before independence it was under control of Princely State of Junagadh ruled Muslim Babi Dynasty. Later after integatation of Junagadh in India due to its location, Gadhakda became a part of the Bhavnagar district and now for the past decade, Gadhakda has become a part of the Amreli district.

Demographics

Population of village is around 15,000 and includes people of diverse ethnic background. Leuva Patidar (Thummar, Savliya, Jiyani, Borad) make up the majority the of population; other ethnicity include Vaniya, Brahmin, Kumbhar, Koli, Darbar, Bharwad, Harijan, Mochi, and Dhobi.

Economy

Apart from agriculture, employment opportunities for people in the village are primarily in diamonds polishing.

Location

The Gadhakda railway station is located 3 km from the main village and falls on the Dhola - Mahuva railway line. This railway line was originally built in 1923 by Bhavnagar State Railway There are connections to village Ramgadh, Likhala, Vijpadi, Badhada, Savarkundla, Jinjuda and Ganeshgadh by road. Gadhakda is the largest village in population and area in Savarkundla tahsil. The Fulzar river passes through the village and separates the plot vistar and old village.

Temples

The many Ashrams and temples located in the village are the main attractions. Temple of lord Shiva is located at the bank of the river Fulzer. Temple of Ashapura Mata is located in the center of the village which is made by the Dhami family of the village and the Shikh family of delhi.

Many Hanuman temples, ashrams and two Ramji Mandir are also located in the village. Though the village is not highly developed, due to its interior location, it is the main village in Savarkundla tehsil and located in a picturesque natural surroundings.

Education

Primary and Secondary school (up to 10th grade education) are there in village.
