GQview is a free software image viewer created by John Ellis using the GTK+ toolkit, designed to run on the X Window System. For MS Windows, an unofficial port is also available.

GQview has functionality that closely resembles ACDSee, with better functionality in some areas, and poorer in others. GQview can be customised to virtually mimic the essential features in ACDSee.

Some Linux distributions include GQview by default, and others provide an easy installer (eg: Synaptic Package Manager under Ubuntu).

Geeqie

As of January 4, 2010 there was more than 3 years of inactivity on GQview. Since March 21, 2008, the Geeqie project has taken the code and is doing new development, with an additional set of features.[1] Geeqie was started due to the stagnation of GQview, and because it was impossible to make contact with John Ellis. Geeqie carries on the development where GQview left off; in the Ubuntu repository now the gqview package points to Geeqie.
