Debian GNU/kFreeBSD

Debian GNU/kFreeBSD is an operating system released by the Debian project. It uses the kernel of FreeBSD combined with a GNU based userland. The majority of software in Debian GNU/kFreeBSD is built from the same sources as Debian GNU/Linux. The k in kFreeBSD refers to the fact that only the kernel of the complete FreeBSD operating system is used. From the perspective of the debian infrastructure and package management debian GNU/KfreeBSD is treated as ports of debian (currently "kfreebsd-i386" and "kfreebsd-amd64").

The Debian GNU/kFreeBSD base system is fully functional, but there still a few major bugs that need to be fixed and packages that need to be ported to the system. The kfreebsd ports of debian were included with debian 6.0 (squeeze) as a "technology preview".
