Funkoars members are Mr. Trials (Producer/MC), Uncle Sesta (Producer/MC), Sketchy Hons (MC) and DJ Reflux (DJ) and were established in 1999.[1]
According to Trials:
"Funkoar is the dreg of society. It is the funnel in which all morals and conscious are drained into the river Styx."[2]
The group's label is Golden Era Records, which was created by the Hilltop Hoods.
Funkoars' debut album, Who's Your Step Daddy, was released by Peepshow Entertainment in 2003.
This was followed by The Greatest Hits in 2006. The production is mostly handled by Sesta and Trials who have gone on to receive exposure producing for the Hilltop Hoods. Guest appearances on the latter album include Hilltop Hoods ("What I Want"), Vents ("The Symphony") and Pegz ("Meet The Family").[3] Following the release of the album, Funkoars went on a national tour between July and August 2006.[4]
In 2008, Funkoars left Obese Records, and on 29 November, released their third album, The Hangover, under the Peepshow label. The first single from this album, "Black Sally", extensively samples New Zealand psych-rock band, Human Instinct's single of the same name, with the video clip featuring Human Instinct's vocalist/drummer, Maurice Greer.[5][6]
Funkoars have performed around the country supporting acts, including Hilltop Hoods, Milkbar Stars, Gangstarr, Apathy & Celph Titled and Public Enemy.[7]
In 2007, they performed at the Adelaide Big Day Out.[8] and also the Big Day Out in Sydney 2009
In June 2005, Trials released a solo EP entitled For the Ladies, which received distribution through Obese Records. The EP won 'Best 12" EP' at the OZHipHop.Com Awards in 2005.[9]
Trials has also produced other albums, including Vents' Hard to Kill, Hilltop Hoods' "Clown Prince" and Drapht's albums, Brothers Grimm and Life of Riley.
