Fumaria bastardii Boreau |
Fumaria bastardii, commonly, tall ramping fumitory or bastard's fumitory, is a many-branched herbaceous plant native the British Isles. There are few plants that are only endemic to Britain. One of the plants on this list is possibly Fumaria bastardii or as it was later named Painter’s Fumitory. This flower has only been found a few times and in each case it was found by William Hunt Painter. A search in 2006 determined that a new specimen had been found in 2006 but the experts failed to agree on the identification. Plants of this description are not rare, but the question is whether the discovered versions are fertile and therefore a species.[1]
This plant appears to hybridize with a related species Fumaria muralis (wall fumitory).
