Freegle is a British organisation that aims to reduce landfill by encouraging people to give things away instead of throwing them away.
Freegle was formed on 11 September 2009 after many Freecycle groups in the UK decided to break away from the US parent organisation following disagreements on how groups in the UK should operate, and the dismissal of long-term UK moderators, who had been speaking out.[1][2][3]
The majority of Freegle groups are hosted on Yahoo Groups, and many can also be used from Facebook, or from Freegle Direct.
As of 15 December 2011[update], there are 322 Freegle groups with an total of 1,227,078 members in the UK.
