Freedoom is a free Doom engine based first-person shooter game currently under development. The game is currently in an alpha stage and many features are missing, for example some monsters and other sprites are replaced by placeholder images, some levels are missing, and some levels have no music. The game's IWAD file is based on the same structure as the Doom 2 IWAD. This allows any custom levels or other customizations designed for Doom 2 to be used with Freedoom. Other variants are available that have the same structure as the original Doom and shareware Doom. As downloaded from the official Freedoom site, it is distributed as an Iwad (game data) file only without an engine. The player must provide a Doom engine such as PrBoom, ZDoom, Boom, or any other Boom-compatible source port.
