Frederic Athelwold Iremonger

The Very Rev Frederic Athelwold Iremonger, DD [1] was an eminent Anglican priest in the mid 20th century[2]. He was born in 1878 and educated at Clifton and Keble College, Oxford[3]. Ordained in 1906[4] he began his career with a curacy at All Saints', Poplar[5] after which he was Priest in charge at St Nicholas, Blackwall[6]. Later he was Vicar of St James the Great, Bethnal Green[7] and then Rector of Quarley. In 1933 he became Director of Religion at the BBC, a post he held to 1939 when he was elevated to the Deanery of Lichfield Cathedral[8]. An Honorary Chaplain to the King[9], he died on 15 September 1952[10].
