Florida State Road 9B
State Road 9B is a planned 7.5 miles (12.1 km) freeway on the south side of Jacksonville. Its north end will be at a partially completed interchange stub located on the southeast-most point on SR 9A/I-295, and it will connect to I-95 (unsigned SR 9) and continue south to serve planned development and possibly extend west as a planned bridge over the St. Johns River (which will connect to SR 23). The part north of I-95 will be signed as Interstate 795 (abbreviated I-795) when it is completed.
History
In May 2008 the project was suspended by the Florida Department of Transportation, but was reinstated in 2010 as funding was acquired via stimulus funds.[2]
Phase 1 of the State Road 9B/I-795 project, consisting of a three mile spur from the Eastern Beltway of I-295 (Former SR 9A) to US 1, will begin in Summer of 2010 and is scheduled to be completed in 2012, at an estimated cost of $68.5 Million. The winning contract went to Archer Western Contractors / GAI Consultants, who also reconstructed the I-10/I-95 interchange in downtown Jacksonville.[3] SR 9B has a high possibility of connecting to the First Coast Outer Beltway via CR 2209 (St. Johns Parkway) when both highways are complete, creating a northwestern connection to I-10.
Exit list
None of SR 9B is built, so this listing is subject to change.
