Fishermen's Memorial State Park

Fishermen's Memorial State Park (previously known as Fort Nathaniel Greene) is a 91 acre state park and campground on Point Judith in Narragansett, Rhode Island, USA near the Block Island Ferry.

The area was originally home to Fort Nathaniel Greene named after Rhode Island Revolutionary War general Nathaniel Greene, but in the twentieth century the name was changed to Fishermen's Memorial State Park due to the high number of fishermen in the area. In 1970 the former fort first opened as a campground.[1]

Fort Greene

Around 1900 Fort Greene (Battery Hamiliton), a 270 acre defensive facility, was constructed part of series of coast defenses around Narragansett Bay. During World War II, the area was heavily fortified and a Army Reserve facility still occupying part of the facility.[2]
