Finnås is a former municipality which is now part of the municipality of Bømlo in Hordaland county, Norway.

History

Finnås is located in the traditional district of Vestlandet. The parish of Finnaas was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). On July 1, 1916 the municipality was split to create three new municipalities: Bremnes, the northern part of Finnås with 3,411 inhabitants; Moster, the southeastern peninsula with 1,316 inhabitants and Bømlo to the southwest with 1.217 inhabitants. Today, the three municipalities are united under the name Bømlo.

Kulleseidkanalen was a canal built in the 1800s which enabled boats to journey between the east and west sides of Bømlo. Today the channel is a small trading center and tourist center, and a popular guest harbor.[1]
