Finn Andrews is lead singer and songwriter of London based band The Veils. His father Barry Andrews was a forming member of 80's bands like XTC and Shriekback and later went on to play with Iggy Pop, Robert Fripp and David Bowie.[1] Raised between his father in London and his mother in New Zealand, Finn started learning music whilst still in Devenport, near Auckland, where during his early teens played for three years in a folk club's 12 piece band. This way began composing his own music that he after developed with his first high-school band called Godboy (8 of the 10 songs that would later make The Veils debut album were written when Finn was between 14 and 16).[2] In 2001, after a set of demos sent to London that started a bidding war between record labels, only 18, Finn left school and moved to U.K. where he soon formed The Veils and than signed with Geoff Travis, initially to his Warner Brothers' subsidiary Blanco Y Negro, and than to his proper label Rough Trade.[3] As of 2009 he has released three records with The Veils: The Runaway Found (2004), Nux Vomica (2006) and Sun Gangs (2009). He's known for extremely cathartic and chaotic live performances and his very unique singing[4] and has guested on albums by Brian Eno, Shriekback and The Mint Chicks on backing vocals.[5] Recently, on September 8, 2009, a link was posted on The Veils website to offer a song for free download. "Turn from the Rain", comments Finn, "was recorded last week in my flat in London in an attempt to extinguish a heavy case of post-american-tour-anxiety. Please freely download and distribute as you wish". This is notably the first song released in his career recorded solely by Finn.[6]
